Saint-Malo — walls, harbour, and a night worth keeping
About 55 km west (~1 hour by car). Intra-muros granite walls, ramparts, restaurants open later than the Mont. Keolis bus links exist in season. Hotels: Saint-Malo.
Cancale — oysters at the water's edge

Avranches — manuscripts and a Normandy foothold
~20–25 minutes by car. The Scriptorial holds Mont-Saint-Michel manuscripts—a quiet sequel to the abbey visit. Mainland base when on-rock hotels are full. Avranches hotels.
Dinan — half-timbered Brittany inland
~1 hour southwest. Steep Rue du Jerzual and timber façades—half-day minimum. Do not squeeze Dinan, Cancale, and the abbey into one breathless day unless you enjoy living in the car.
The bay — sheep, marshes, and guided walks
